But weren’t the old gods just as if not more destructive and chaotic? Didn’t the transcendents literally come into existence out of pure necessity for stability in the universe? ![]() How is this an upgrade in the Black Mages vision? Does he have anything in place to prevent said destruction from occurring all over again and basically ruining the utopia he tried to create? Or does he value free choice at all costs and justify the means by the ends?ĮDIT: additionally, the story contradicts itself kind of? It says people hated the transcendents for “the chaos they had wrought” and believers in the old gods worshipped them in cernium. Lastly, it was said there was chaos and such with the ancient gods being the rulers of the universe, before the transcendents creation. So why are Darmoor and other transcendents allowed to exist? Shouldn’t their “mere existence” essentially cancel out the disappearance of the maple world transcendents? Or at the very least, prevent the merge of Grandis with maple world? Surely the Black Mage was aware of these other transcendants, so why did his plan still work? Did he not expect any interference? So, I’m reading through the cernium storyline, and it basically makes the point that the very existence of transcendents was what the Black Mage had to eradicate (including himself) in order to truly free the universe from the shackles of determinism (or something to that effect), and his death caused grandis and maple world to merge.
